Course image APPLIED HYDROLOGY
Irrigation and Drainage Technology

The purpose of this module is to give students a wider understanding of principles of water, the importance of hydrology, groundwater, open channel flow, streamflow measurements and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). It provides a clear understanding of water resources and processes related to the movement of water above, on and below the earth's surface. It provides a basic knowledge of atmospheric and surface processes (precipitation, evapotranspiration, infiltration, surface run-off).

The main objectives and contents of this course are based on an understanding of water cycle, discussion on water cycle components and integrated water resources management (IWRM) as a tool for sustainable water resources planning.

Irrigation and Drainage Technology

This module describes the skills, knowledge and attitude required to apply basic concept of electricity and automation. It is intended for learners pursuing TVET diploma of irrigation and drainage technology. At the end of this module the students will be able to identify basic concepts in electricity, study the behavior and characteristics of AC and DC circuits, identify Single and 3phase circuits, install different electrical circuits in irrigation system, and install automated irrigation system. Qualified student deemed competent to this competency, may work with others in support of current professional practice in marshland, hillside, small scale irrigation, garden, greenhouses under guidance.
