This module is designed for students
pursuing Advanced Diploma courses in Construction
Technology. It describes the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to apply
basic
geotechnical engineering.
At the end of the module, students will
be able to perform geotechnical investigations,
analyze foundations, retaining walls and slope stability failures.
1. Perform geotechnical investigation
2. Analyze shallow foundations
3. Analyze deep foundations
4. Analyze retaining wall
5. Analyze slope stability
The module titled workshop technology for level Three, WSC 302 -Drainage and sewage structure / Plumbing Workshop has the aim of introducing to students on Drainage and sewage structure as used in plumbing works, are also used in civil engineering works just on building construction
This module is the complementary of the module which has been learnt in semester one and two ,level one civil engineering, for level two semester one and two And for level three named WSC 301 Sanitary appliances and pumps installation whereby at the completion of this module students were able to understand
Drainage and sewage structure as module ,came in semester two in order to train our students in accordance to the labor market demand locally and internationally,by, The course aims to provide students a comprehensive, advanced understanding and appreciation in theoretical and practical content. At the end of this module the student should be able to:
1. Recognize and identify system of above ground discharge pipe work and sanitation.
2. Identify different types of traps; understand the reasons for loss of traps.
3. Describe preventative measures to eliminate loss of water seal in traps
4. Name common materials used for pipework systems and understand jointing techniques,
5. Including connection between above ground and below ground discharge systems.
6. Make line diagrams to illustrate the layout of above ground discharge pipework and sanitation systems including appliances and components.
7. State the purpose of domestic waste disposal units and describe the operating cycle of these units.
8. State the purpose and functional requirement of above –ground discharge pipework and sanitation system
Above ground discharge systems (AGDS) are essential to ensure that we are able to keep ourselves and our household environment clean and hygienic. In this unit on AGDS we will look at:
· Sanitary systems and final disposal units
· Sanitary pipework and fittings, and the various appliances on the market, and how to install them
· Rain water drainage – that is guttering and fall pipe systems
9. Welding
· Gas and electric welding techniques, equipment and safety procedures, Braze /bronze welding
· Municipal and private Rwanda regulations.
As trainer, it is my obligation to conduct training and delivering courses that equip our students with knowledge and hands on skills at a maximum level in order to provide response to the poverty reduction and rapid development of our country and region in general.
Dear students, Let us work together as a team , respect the academic regulations, work very had then we will achieve all objectives set in this module finally you will go back with skills that shape your destiny.
thank youThe module titled workshop technology for level Three , WSC 302 -STAIR CONSTRUCTION / CARPENTRY WORKSHOP has the aim of introducing to students on STAIR CONSTRUCTION as used in wood works especially in carpentry woodwork, these wooden stairs are also used in civil engineering works just on building construction
This module is the complementary of the module which has been learnt in semester one and two ,level one civil engineering named INTRODUCTION TO CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS =WSC 101=component of TIMBER TECHNOLOGY AND HAND TOOLS USE-CARPENTRY WORKSHOP'' , WSC 102 WOODWORKING MACHINES, for level two semester one and two named WSC201; WINDOW AND DOOR CONSTRUCTION, WSC 202 WOOD FURNITURE FABRICATION And for level three named WSC 301 ROOF CONSTRUCTION whereby at the completion of this module students were able to understand timber technology and use of hand tools, use of portable and heavy woodworking machines, and construct different wooden furniture for a specific task given to them.
wooden stair as module ,came in semester two in order to train our students in accordance to the labor market demand locally and internationally,by, The course aims to provide students a comprehensive, advanced understanding and appreciation in theoretical and practical content in stair construction
COURSE OBJECTIVES
To actualize the above stated aims, the course has well defined set of specific objectives and by attaining these
objectives, the students should have attained these objectives where by having successfully completed the
module, they should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
1. Define Stair and explain stair construction terminologies
2. Differentiate various types, Classes, Categories of stair
3. Identify general principles of staircase design
4. Provide students with knowledge of wooden stairs construction, Wooden stairs setting out and
construction, Wooden stairs calculation members and used joints and Wooden stair finishing and
varnishing
5. Design and make different kind of stair such as private and public stairway
6. Know general requirements for private stairways
7. Identify the materials used for stair construction
8. Perform the calculation design of stairs
9. Assemble the staircase procedures
10. Assemble a wooden form work mostly used for concrete stairs’ construction
