This module describes the skills, knowledge and attitude required to apply soil science
principles. It is intended for learners pursuing TVET Diploma in Horticulture. At the end of this
module, learners will be able determine soil characteristics, describe soil fertility and fertilizers,
perform soil conservation and perform laboratory analysis of soil. Qualified learners deemed
competent to this competency may work alone or with others on routine tasks in various
places such as horticulture farm, crop production farm, agriculture research centres,
greenhouse under minimum supervision.
