This module explores advanced techniques used to manipulate and enhance fabric surfaces for innovative fashion design. It focuses on both traditional and contemporary methods of fabric texturing and surface decoration, enabling students to develop unique, aesthetically appealing, and functional textiles for garments and accessories.

Students will engage in practical and theoretical learning covering techniques such as lacework, pleating, smocking, quilting, embroidery, appliqué, fabric manipulation, dyeing, printing, and mixed-media surface applications. The course also introduces experimental approaches, including the use of non-traditional materials and sustainable practices in textile surface design.

Through studio-based projects, students will investigate texture, color, pattern, and form, and learn how to integrate these elements into fashion design. Emphasis is placed on creativity, innovation, and the translation of conceptual ideas into tangible textile outcomes suitable for contemporary fashion markets.

By the end of the module, students will be able to design and produce advanced textured fabrics and surface applications, select appropriate techniques and materials, and apply these effectively in garment development and fashion collections.
