MEASUREMENTS OF SIMPLE ELEMENTS

Measurement of Simple Elements is a fundamental module in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management. It focuses on how to measure and quantify basic building components so that the cost of construction work can be estimated accurately. The measurements are usually prepared following standard measurement rules such as the Standard Method of Measurement (SMM) or the New Rules of Measurement (NRM).

Purpose of the Module

The main aim of this module is to teach students how to:

  1. Identify simple building elements in construction drawings.

  2. Take accurate measurements from drawings and specifications.

  3. Calculate quantities of construction materials and work items.

  4. Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for simple construction works.

  5. Apply standard measurement principles in building projects.
