This module describes the skills, knowledge and attitude required to introduce soil science. It is
intended for learners who have completed TVET Certificate V in Crop Production or
other related qualifications. At the end of this module, learners will be able to determine soil
characteristics, describe soil fertility and fertilizers, describe the soil-water-plant relationship,
perform soil conservation and perform laboratory analysis of soil. Qualified learners deemed
competent to this competency may work alone or with others on routine tasks in various places
such as horticulture farm, crop production farm, agriculture research center, greenhouse under
minimum supervision.
