Irrigation and Drainage Technology

This module describes the skills, knowledge, and attitude required to design a subsurface drainage system. It is intended for learners pursuing the TVET Advanced Diploma of Irrigation and Drainage Technology.

At the end of this module the students will be able to:

1. Investigate drainage problem, 

2. Identify drainage methods, 

3. Determine the characteristics of drainage structures, and 

4. Estimate the resources of the project and 

5. Complete the design of subsurface drainage.

Qualified students deemed competent to this competency may work with others in support of current professional practice in marshland, hillside, small land, large-scale irrigation, drainage, gardens, and greenhouses under minimum guidance.

Course image IDTDS701 - DESIGN OF SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE SYSTEM
Irrigation and Drainage Technology

This module describes the skills, knowledge, and attitude required to design a subsurface drainage system. It is intended for learners pursuing the TVET Advanced diploma of irrigation and drainage technology. At the end of this module, the students will be able to investigate drainage problems, identify drainage methods, determine the characteristics of drainage structures, estimate the resources of the project, and complete the design of subsurface drainage. Qualified students deemed competent to this competency may work with others in support of current professional practice in marshland, hillside, small land, large-scale irrigation, drainage, gardens, and greenhouses under minimum guidance.

The number of credits for this module is 10 with 100 learning hours. The module is organized into five (5) elements of competence: investigate drainage problems, identify drainage methods, determine the characteristics of drainage structures, estimate the resources of the project, and complete the design of subsurface drainage. The topics are organized in a sequential manner in terms of the level of complexity of the subject matter and the author has ensured that the previous topic introduces and complements the succeeding topic, thus making the subject matter of the latter easier to follow and comprehend.

large-scale irrigation, garden and greenhouses under minimum guidance.
