Irrigation and Drainage Technology

Determine soil suitability for agriculture practices (IDTSS601) is a course offered to First year students in TVET Diploma in Irrigation and Drainage Technology, Department of Agricultural Engineering at Rwanda Polytechnic -GISHARI COLLEGE. The purpose statement of this module is to describe the skills, knowledge and attitude required to Determine soil suitability for agriculture practices. At the end of this module, the students will be able to identify soil formation mechanism, perform soil analysis and identify soil properties. Qualified student deemed competent to this competency, may work with others in support of current professional practice in marshland, hillside, small-scale irrigation, garden, greenhouses under guidance.

The number of credits of this module are 4 with 40 learning hours. The module is organized into 3 elements of competence: Identify soil formation mechanism, Perform soil analysis and Identify soil properties. The topics are organized in a sequential manner in terms of the level of complexity of the subject matter and the author has ensured that the previous topic introduces and complements the succeeding topic thus making the subject matter of the latter easier to follow and comprehend.
