This module describes the competencies required
for the control of the animal diversity in the Albertine Rift region and to
perform proper tasks for the conservation of the animals. To ensure that conservation measures on
animals are effectively developed and put into practice, the trainee should
know animal species that belong to four major groups of vertebrates and the
insects found in the region, especially the Albertine Rift, made of Afromontane
biodiversity hotspots. For each group of those vertebrates and the insects, the
trainee should know to identify the species of the region, perform appropriate
field surveys, determine the threats facing those animals, and apply required
interventions to address the threats on them and their habitat.
