The purpose of this module is to give students a wider understanding of principles of water, the importance of Fluid Mechanics and hydraulics, and both open channel and pipe flows. It provides a clear understanding of water resources and processes related to the movement of water above, on and below the earth surface. It provides basic knowledge on design of both open and closed channels.
The main objectives and contents of this course are based on understanding of principles behind behaviour of fluids especially water at rest and in motion.
This Course contains two mains parts, the first one describes on how to perform pressurized irrigation systems using plumbing appliances and plumbing materials such as pipes, tubes etc..... and the second one focuses on electrical circuit installations which can apply in irrigation systems.
The course aims to provide the general notions of: origin of soil, composition of soil, physical and index properties of the soil, Mechanical characteristics and engineering behaviour of the soil, failure criteria of loaded soil, stress distribution in soil mass due to soil self-weight or structural loads.
