This module is designed for students pursuing Advanced Diploma courses in Construction Technology. It describes the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to apply basic geotechnical engineering.
At the end of the module, students will be able to perform geotechnical investigations, analyse foundations, retaining walls and slope stability failures.
The course aims to provide the basic knowledge of engineering surveying as applied to Engineering practice. It will equip students with knowledge and skills on distance and angles measurement, using advanced surveying instruments, interpretation and drawing contour maps, computation of area and volumes of earthworks. In addition, this module will provide practical skills of road alignment in highway.
The module enables students to understand design principles, methods, purpose, criteria of the building members especially columns and combined footing, retaining walls, water tanks and big storage structures as well
